Education

I want to write a long, winding post on education. On how home education can be beautiful, exhausting, and trying. On how its not perfect and neither is public school, or private, or catholic.

I want to talk about the exhaustion of parents and teachers. The lack of funding. The lack of cohesion, how it reminds me of the ways I see humans find more to divide us than to unite. There will always be more that unites.

I want to talk about how most education will happen in little moments. When a teacher has the extra time, or the right tools, or the students are a bit more patient that day. When a parent sits and discusses any topic. When children make meals, play games, walk in the world.

I want to talk about how education is important to us all. We all deserve the skill of knowing how to learn, of wanting to learn, of believing, knowing we can learn. How critical thinking effects us all.

I don’t have that time today. I must teach math via curriculum and paint by numbers for the I don’t know how many-th time. My “jobs” as mother, educator, homemaker, communicator, community builder, etc are not paid well, they are not universally respected, they might have a lot of politics surrounding them, but we all know presence is a present.
